I’m a step or two behind my compatriots in submitting work to the newly minted Alphabooks Project (a literary-minded follow up to the now complete Alphabeasts Project) but, even so, here is an entry for A, just a touch tardy and a bit dashed off.
For this inaugural letter I chose a man with many names. Sometimes he is known as Usul, sometimes Muad’Dib. He could even be The Preacher but he is always the Kwisatz Haderach himself, Paul Atreides of House Atreides from the “Dune” series of science fiction books by Frank Herbert.
I really did want to avoid drawing him up to look like Kyle MacLachlan but, as you can see, I was unable to avoid the temptation. I’m afraid I’m one of those great heretics who actually enjoys the David Lynch film very much and I’ll watch the danged thing straight through every chance I’m given. I read the first three novels, “Dune”, “Messiah of Dune” and “Children of Dune” in high school and, regretfully, remember very little of them but, hey, I’m never gonna forget seeing a guy milking a cat taped to a rat in the movie version.
